A heartwarming picture book for ages 4–6.

Nine-year-old Zoe Meadows is the new kid in Ivy Creek. For homeschooled Zoe, every day starts the same: breakfast, then to the living room where Miss Ellis awaits. Only today, Zoe can’t focus—not when she notices neighborhood children playing outside, children she’s yet to meet. Watching all this unfold, Zoe’s parents decide it’s time for a companion—the furry kind, to be precise.

Everything changes when Zoe meets Hope at the dog shelter for the first time. The two girls form an inseparable bond over the following months and find in each other the one thing they both craved for a long, long time: a forever friend.

The Review

This was a truly touching and heartfelt children’s book. The beautiful, bright illustrations balanced the fast pace and engaging narrative. The natural cadence of each passage and the introspective yet light atmosphere created a unique reading experience for children and parents alike.

Yeah, it was the book’s strong theme that made it such a hit. So many young people deal with loneliness, and sadly, that can translate into their adult lives as well. Yeah, the introduction of Hope the dog not only reinforces the idea of companionship but also showcases how pets can help form healthy, strong bonds that last a lifetime. As a pet parent myself, it was both emotional and heartening to see Hope and Zoe’s story come to life.

The Verdict

Heartfelt, engaging, and easy to read, author Amie White’s “A Friend For Hope” is a must-read children’s illustrated book. The steady pacing and emotional storytelling blend perfectly with the lovely illustrations and thought-provoking message to provide a reading experience that children, parents, and readers in general will not be able to get enough of.
