“Apprenticed to the Night” is a collection of 66 poems focused on mortality, betrayal, memory, trauma, and the bewilderment of loss as constantly shifting enigmas. It explores themes of life, death, childhood, trauma, family, and love. The book is divided into three sections: Youth, Maturity, and Beyond. Reviewers have called this collection a powerful and moving collection of poetry that is honest, insightful, innovative, and beautifully written. – – – – “Apprenticed to the Night” is available in hardcover, paperback, and a e-version from UniVerse Press (the poetry imprint of Beacon Books). – –
The Review
This is a compelling and heartfelt collection of poetry. The poet does a remarkable job of taking readers on a metaphysical journey of sorts, traversing the realms of reality, memory, and thematic symphonies as each poem reflects both experiences and hardships respectfully. The imagery found in the author’s writing was quite powerful, packing an almost cinematic gut punch as each poem brought a clash of realism and lyricism to life on the page.
For me, the heart of this narrative collection of poems came from the thought-provoking atmosphere and the emotional heartbeat of the collection overall. The journey through themes of life, death, trauma, abandonment, womanhood, and more made the story of the author’s experiences come to life through each poem so artfully.
The Verdict
Memorable, heartfelt, and engaging, author LindaAnn LoSchiavo’s “Apprenticed to the Night” is a must-read collection of poems you won’t be able to put down. The heart and passion meld with the author’s creativity so naturally that readers will be drawn to this book over and over again. If you haven’t yet, be sure to grab your copy today!

Author Randi-Lee Bowlaugh shares the painful realities of loss and addiction as she eulogizes her brother after his loss to addiction in the book “Good-Bye Too Soon”.
Advertisements
The Synopsis
Addiction is a rampant mental illness that takes hold of individuals of any age. Brandon was only a teenager when drugs took over his life. The battle raged for decades before he lost.
Randi-Lee shares the truth behind the eulogy. Having a brother with addiction created a fissure and forced the need for boundaries. Stepping away and loving him from a distance was her only way to keep herself safe.
This book goes beyond losing a brother. It delves into risk factors, constructive coping strategies, and a family’s grieving process. Reminding those left behind to forgive ourselves and the person we lost.
The Review
This was a heartbreaking and honest book on grief, loss, and the painful path of addiction. The author remarkably conveys the emotional rollercoaster that comes with losing someone so close to addiction while also threading through the painful realities of maintaining healthy boundaries and yet desperately clinging to the hope of reuniting with the person that has lost themselves to this mental illness.
The balance between emotional storytelling and clinical, detailed revelations regarding addiction and mental health concerns was great to see come to life on the page. It kept the reader emotionally invested while showcasing some of the root causes of addiction, the impact on both the addict and those in the addict’s life, and the shocking realities of life while living with addiction as a whole. The way the author was able to showcase the person her brother was outside of the addiction as well was really emotional and heartfelt and made for some compelling reading.
The Verdict
Thoughtful, heartfelt, and engaging, author Randi-Lee Bowslaugh’s “Good-Bye Too Soon” is a must-read nonfiction memoir on drug dependency, recovery, and the path of loss that readers won’t want to put down. The Review
This is definitely a well-written and thought-provoking read for faithful readers. The balance of personal storytelling with introspective discussions of faith was well represented in the author’s work, and the interactive part of the guide made this book feel more personal and connected to the reader themselves.
The attention to detail the author gives to this book in regard to the biblical verses and the way the author was able to find ways of incorporating femininity and female empowerment into the lessons that each chapter taught were great to see. The importance of making more room for positive interactions for women and supporting women in general when it comes to faith and religion as a whole is so important in this modern age, and seeing the author’s work incorporate this into the lessons showed through her powerful experiences and memories.
The Verdict
Thoughtful, enlightening, and memorable, author and Dr. Katherine Hutchinson-Hayes’s “God’s Little Black Dress for Women” is a must-read nonfiction book for faith and religious readers looking to find positive feminism engagement for modern-day Christianity. Valkyrie knows she needs to survive long enough until Sion has already embarked on his mission before the Third Sister collects her. And she also needs to know he will be okay when she’s gone.
The Review
This was such a powerful and captivating entry into the author’s Elementals of Nordica series. The story had the signature blend of fantasy and military action infused into so many scenes, making it feel very cinematic and adrenaline-fueled. The rich world-building and the expansion of the author’s scope for this story were so enthralling that I was driven into the core of this narrative from the beginning.
For me, the way the author touched upon a more emotional character direction for several of the characters and the haunting tone of the story made this such a compelling entry into the series. The vast amount of characters the author was able to bring to life in this story in a natural way and yet the heartfelt and emotional themes of destiny and sacrifice that the main cast of characters brought to life made this narrative feel alive and captivating.
The Verdict
Memorable, entertaining, and thoughtfully written, author TC Marti’s “Wind Ruler” is a must-read sci-fi and fantasy meets military action novel and a great entry into the Elementals of Nordica series. Filled with heartbreak, thrills, and memorable world-building moments that build upon the mythos the author has crafted, this thrilling series continues to draw the reader in time and time again. The Synopsis
A fun and engaging children’s book about discovering new places, friendship, and exploring our wonderful world!

Brother and sister Noah and Mila have lived here their whole life.
On their daily walk, their dog Buster digs a hole under the city’s walls and escapes to the other side. Noah and Mila follow him and see a whole new world outside the little box they’ve grown up in. They discover the beautiful Green Town.
There they encounter new faces like Ali and Carol who show them what it’s like to breathe clean air, ride a bicycle and see trees everywhere you go.
Why have Noah and Mila never heard of Green Town before?
Out of the Box is the story of an adventure and discovery that allows children to connect with the environment through the eyes of Noah and Mila.
It shows us the importance of greener living and how pushing for change is possible!
The Review
This was a wonderfully creative and inspiring read for younger readers everywhere. The world-building and character development were very well done and had some incredible detail included, something you don’t always get in a children’s book. The imagery that the illustrations captured and the unique settings that the narrative takes readers through made this story truly stand out and engaged the reader on a whole other level.
To me, the heart of this narrative rested in the powerful environmental themes and messages of hope that the author wrote into the story. The overwhelming nature of the fossil fuels and non-renewable energy sources that are still used to this day brought a grim reality to the story, while the promise of renewable energy and cleaner living in the later half of the narrative touched upon our own push as a species to improve and take better care of the environment.
The Verdict
Heartfelt, thoughtful, and enlightening, author Lucia Matuonto’s “Out of the Box: A New World” is a must-read children’s book on environmentalism and our impact on the world. The rich storyline and the dynamics between the characters will hook young readers, and the themes the story teaches will leave fans educated and enthralled all at once. Infamous partner of world-renowned detective Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson must unravel the mystery behind his friend’s sudden frightful state and determine whether the great detective came into contact with true time travel or instead is lost to a mad game in author Glenn Searfoss’s “Sherlock Holmes: A Question of Time”.
Advertisements
The Synopsis
A shocking mystery or outrageous hoax?
Responding to an urgent summons, Dr. Watson arrives at 221B to find Sherlock Holmes swathed in filth and in a state of deep shock. To ensure Holmes’ safety, he must retrace the detective’s last movements and discover the source of his debility. The investigation leads to a fire-gutted warehouse where nothing remains except an open cesspit and the enigma of an unburned circle.
A convalescing Holmes unravels the mystery by relating his encounter in the riverside warehouse with a time traveler. But with a lack of physical evidence and only Holmes’ account of what transpired, Watson must determine if the related events actually happened or are a grand jest perpetrated by his friend.
The Review
This was a brilliant and captivating read. The author does an incredible job of meshing the worlds of H.G. Wells and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in a way that feels both natural and engaging. The blend of sci-fi with mystery and detective YA suspense stories not only captured the magic and wonder that the books The Time Machine and Sherlock Holmes were known for, but highlighted the Victorian era mindset and settings in a natural way.
The character development and mystery were two great elements in the story. The introduction of the time traveler and the keen eye and investigative work of Sherlock Holmes felt spot on to the iconic portrayal of these characters, while the breakdown of the investigation and the always-questioning mind of Holmes and Watson made for some thrilling adventure storytelling. Yet it was Watson as the narrator of the story that made this book so compelling. Through a great sense of world-building, the author shows Watson’s small-scale life that receives the shock to the system he needed, after personal loss and haunted memories come to life for him and force him to confront his pain head-on throughout the book.
The Verdict
Memorable, action-packed, and entertaining, author Glenn Searfoss’s “Sherlock Holmes: A Question of Time” is a must-read YA sci-fi meets mystery novel. The twists and turns in the narrative and the shocking developments and emotional ties the reader forms to the cast of characters, as well as the iconic settings and atmosphere the author manages to capture from these two distinct literary worlds, made this a compelling and masterful fusion and retelling of two great literary titan-level novels. The Review
This was an incredibly well-written and captivating read. The author does an amazing job early on in establishing a personal connection with the reader with an intimate writing style while also demonstrating authority and expertise in the subject matter through the detailed guide and knowledge the book imparts to the reader. The applications of the author’s work to both real-life situations and business as a whole were great to see illustrated in the author’s writing.
For me, the heart of this narrative came down to the difference established between managers and leaders, and the concept of an ever-evolving growth in becoming a leader. The way author dives into the different ways in which people learn, and how those who take a more scholarly approach and can use the lessons taught in school in their everyday life make great managers, while great leaders are always learning and growing and the world is their classroom, so to speak. The emphasis put on learning on a consistent level throughout one’s life and career was so inspiring, as it gives everyone a fair and hopeful chance at improving their life and becoming more than what the world says they should be, and the applications for these lessons in a more business sense were well developed.
The Verdict
Memorable, educational, and inspiring, author Damon Lembi’s “The Learn-It-All Leader: Mindset, Traits and Tools” is a must-read nonfiction book on business and growth as a leader. The straightforward and honest writing style and the impact of the author’s lessons and experiences will give readers the boost of hope and confidence they need to absorb not only the author’s information, but the lessons life has to teach us all in the years ahead of us. A shocking and disturbed killer on a mission to recover his stolen “honor” brings an intense manhunt and two seasoned detectives eager to bring the killer to justice themselves in author Gary Westphalen’s “The Tattoo Murders”.
Advertisements
The Synopsis
When the man’s honor has been stolen, it is up to him to get it back. He needs to take care of business. Settling these scores means a series of cross-country journeys that leaves a trail of death. This quest to regain Honor captures the attention of an FBI Task Force that always seems to be a step ahead of the man, but is really a step or two behind. Maybe that’s because the man is getting help from a group of insightful characters that may or may not be real. Author Gary Westphalen masterfully blends a crime thriller plot with just enough seemingly supernatural elements to keep you guessing and flipping pages nonstop in this epic adventure, which is inspired by a true story.
The Review
This is a compelling and captivating thriller. The author does a wonderful job of diving into the psychological aspect of this thriller and exploring the chilling nature of humanity as a whole. The tension and heart-pounding action that this story infuses into the narrative are powerful and leave a lasting impression on the reader. The strong imagery the author uses in their work highlights the coast-to-coast setting in the U.S. and the atmosphere the author infuses into the narrative.
To me, what always stands out in a Gary Westphalen thriller is the true story the novel is based on and the rich themes the story touches upon. The action and suspense only serve to highlight these ideas, as the discussion around themes of mental illness, anti-humanism, and mankind’s connection to nature as a whole become prominent, as does the nature of media and communication in the 21st century and its impact on society as a whole. The chilling realities that the true story’s impact has on the author’s tale showcase the darker side of human nature, while the narrative and the true story also showcase the brighter spots of humanity and those willing to fight to protect it.
The Verdict
Memorable, haunting, and engaging, author Gary Westphalen’s “The Tattoo Murders” is a must-read psychological thriller that readers won’t want to put down. The heart-pounding tension and rich exploration of both the investigator’s and killer’s points of view will keep readers on the edge of their seats, and the brilliant writing itself will have readers eager for more of the author’s incredible body of work.
