The Review

It is a beautifully illustrated and captivating children’s book. The author did an incredible job of layering the story with a sense of wonder and heart that really spoke to the reader and brought both parent and child together to revel in childhood’s magic. The warmth and heart that come from the incredible illustrations in this book capture the sense of adventure and excitement that childhood friendships can often bring.

The Review

The author did an incredible job of crafting a unique narrative that was relatable and inspiring. The warmth of the artwork allows the reader to get lost in the fictional world of the author’s making, and the inspirational tone that the author portrays in this narrative really allows the reader to feel connected to these characters.

To me, the themes of standing up to bullies and the unique diversity of the cast of characters in this book were fantastic and the core of this book. The way the author teaches kids to stand up for themselves and others, and the way the author was able to incorporate characters from all walks of life, including a Ukraine refugee, allows the reader to get a sense of the world around them and the way to celebrate our differences to find our common ground with one another.

The Review

This was a thoughtful and heartfelt children’s read. The emphasis on the sport of basketball to bring these barnyard animals together was well-meshed with the overall story, and the warmth of the illustrations really allowed young readers to connect to both the story and the characters themselves.

To me, the heart of this story rested in the themes the author was able to bring out in this book. The reader represents young kids who are constantly battling self-acceptance and self-expression. Finding that kind of openness and acceptance in this story through these animals’ shared passion for basketball helped to bridge the divides that so many young people have amongst themselves these days, making this a valuable lesson as well.

The author did an incredible job of inspiring and delighting the reader with this fantastic children’s story. The balance between the basketball references and the impactful themes made this a thoughtful story. The friendship and mentorship that develops between the Cow and the Moon is a great source of entertainment and joy and will have younger readers clamoring for more from these two characters.

The heart of the story was in the strong themes the author brought to the story. The author not only honed in on the need for perseverance in the face of adversity and the importance of practice but also the strength that can come from leaning on others and being willing to learn to grow as a person, whether that be in sports or in life in general, making this story strand out amongst other children’s book stories.

The Review

This was a fantastic and well-illustrated children’s book. The beautiful animation style of the art itself brought the warmth and emotional core of the story and Trevor as a character to life perfectly. The fast-paced story and the engaging narrative will bring children and parents together perfectly.

The authors did a phenomenal job of bringing a heartfelt story to life, playing on the themes of loneliness and facing adversity considerably through Trevor as both a character and his story. The way Trevor fights to overcome his fear of flight and the unexpected obstacles that land in his path to make him stumble on his path showcases the strength and courage he had to face those adversities and strive to be better, making this an inspiring children’s tale.

The Review

Yet another compelling and enthralling children’s book read from this dynamic author duo. The authors do an incredible job of giving each character their own moment to shine, and the cool illustrations help highlight both the coldness of the ice rink and the cool nature of ghosts and the supernatural as a whole.

To me, the heart of this narrative rested on the overall theme of being true to oneself and to finding our passions in life. The story is great for both parents and kids alike, as it shows children how to stay true to themselves while allowing parents who may not already subscribe to the idea that giving their children room to grow and find their passions in life is the best way to see them thrive.

The Verdict

Memorable, heartfelt, and entertaining, authors Ben Jackson and Sam Lawrence’s “Ghosts Can’t Play Hockey” is a must-read children’s book and a truly creative tale. The focus on not only Bruce and his dream of hockey, but his relationship with his father as well made this such a well-told story that readers won’t be able to stay away from for long. A young injured owl must discover the true nature of one’s identity in author Jenna Greene’s “An Owl without a Name”.

Watermelon

The Synopsis

The charming story of a young owl’s strange and disorienting journey to discover who he is and where he belongs.

When a young Great Horned Owl wakes up to find himself on the ground with a broken wing, he can’t figure out where he is, how he got there, or how to get back to the tree where he lives with his parents and older sister. Is this a test, to see if he is ready to leave the nest? Is he being punished for something? Before he knows what is happening, he is whisked away to a rescue centre, where he meets other owls who are also recovering from injuries before being released back into the wild. Lonely, confused, and very self-conscious of the fact that he doesn’t have a name, the young owl slowly adapts to his new surroundings. He makes friends, finds his courage, heals from his injury, and realizes that identity is about more than a name that is given to you. It’s about the character that you develop, especially when you face hard times. Heartwarming, whimsical, and inspirational, An Owl without a Name is an uplifting tale for young readers.

Take a Food Journey Around the World!

The Review

This was a heartwarming and engaging children’s read. The author does a remarkable job of crafting a story that felt wholesome and educational, yet brought the warmth and emotional structure that was needed to draw young readers into the narrative perfectly. The focus on storytelling allowed the author to stoke the reader’s imagination as well, capturing the use of imagery and atmosphere perfectly to hone in on the overall theme.

Yet it was the theme and story that really brought this book to life. The author was able to really capture the essence of animal conservation, from how we as humans need to interact and respect wildlife, to the care and dedication that wildlife conservationists and veterinarians bring to the field. The balance the author found in this powerful theme with the development of this Owl protagonist struggling to find his own identity and what identity even means made this a profound reading experience.

The Verdict

Memorable, heartfelt, and engaging, author Jenna Greene’s “An Owl without a Name” is a must-read children’s book. The well-drawn-out journey that this baby Owl goes on in their recovery and the exploration of themes of animal conservation, identity, and finding one’s place in the world away from the comforts of home made this a truly fantastic book to come back to time and time again. And the lessons, hardships, and, ultimately, triumphs that are experienced through that journey. 50% of the proceeds for this story go to the Mamba Mambacita Sports Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of America to promote youth sports and education in underserved communities.

The Review

This was a heartfelt and compelling children’s book. The author was able to distinctly tell a remarkable story that children and parents alike will fall in love with, all while catapulting the reader into an emotional read that deals with some powerful moments in life that will stay with readers.

To me, the heart of this story rests in the powerful themes the author explores and the relatability of the narrative overall. Having grown up in Southern California, the Lakers were our favorite team, and having spent many years watching Kobe, Shaq, and so many other incredible players take the team to championship after championship, the connection to those players was strong. The emotional depth of dealing with loss, and finding the inspiration within ourselves made this a memorable book.

The Verdict

Thoughtful, heartfelt, and engaging, author Sierra West’s “Raffi” is a must-read children’s book. The heartening look at how we recover from tragedy and loss and the lessons that those who inspire us can not only teach us but impact us on a grander level made this book a truly delightful read.
