Unstoppable Famine (The Intern Diaries Book 4) By DC Gomez Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

A woman must run a supernatural city while dealing with mysterious animal attacks and a moody horseman in author DC Gomez’s “Unstoppable Famine”, the fourth book in the Intern Diaries series.

The Synopsis

Animal attacks, a temperamental Horseman, and a cranky Intern. Heads are going to roll.

Why does everyone keep telling me I need a vacation?

I’m not volatile.

But how would you handle running your own city, with domestic disputes, vandalism, and even breaking and entering? Oh yeah, add in all the citizens are supernatural?

There is only so much a girl can handle.

Now I have unexplained animal attacks and the moody Famine to deal with. I don’t need a vacation. Just don’t cross me and life will be great for everyone. Because you don’t want to see me mad.

* Unstoppable Famine is book four in The Intern Diaries, The Urban Fantasy Series based on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Isis Black never expected to become an overworked, stress-out intern, ready to snap. With the demands of running a city and dealing with the deception surrounding the Horsemen, even Isis has her breaking point. But will Texarkana survive Isis and Famine?

The Review

One thing I’ve always loved about this series is the wonderful blend of humor and wit the author brings to the character dynamics. The book can explore everything from the pros and cons of eating meat and going to war online with Satan over a viral video to moments of explosive action and intensity that instantly grab readers’ attention. The larger-than-life world-building is always really well balanced with little life moments that make the reader feel grounded and engaged in the world the author has created.

The heart of this narrative has to be in the character growth and the larger themes the story plays on. Seeing the protagonist struggling with balance and burnout (even in a supernatural sense) allowed the reader to glimpse a relatable tone that highlighted the struggles many people face in finding moments for themselves amid responsibilities and sacrifices. The protagonist’s deepening bond with characters like Bartholomew and the unique story that unfolds when they bring Famine into the mix will keep readers invested as the story progresses.

The Verdict

Humorous, action-packed, and wildly entertaining, author DC Gomez’s “Unstoppable Famine” is a must-read supernatural thriller novel. The charming character dynamics are felt from the very first page, as a seemingly domestic dispute turns into a spectral home attack, and the twists and turns the author introduces while also deepening the world-building and creating heartfelt characters make this feel like a dynamic entry into the series that readers won’t be able to put down. If you haven’t yet, be sure to grab your copy today!

PRESS RELEASE: SUGAR PLUMS AND DEATH’S INTERN BY DC GOMEZ RELEASES

Sugar Plums and Death’s Intern

A new Urban Fantasy Adventure by USA Today Bestselling Author DC Gomez

What’s the worst way to spend a weekend with your quirky, magical team?

A team-building retreat, of course.

When Constantine drags the crew to Hochatown, OK, for some “bonding,” no one’s thrilled. Bob’s only focus is the bake-off, which is already shaping up to be a recipe for disaster. But when a group of thieves launches a high-stakes heist in the middle of their supposed downtime, things go south faster than you can say “sugar plums.”

Now, it’s not just about surviving each other’s company—it’s about surviving in a town where the dead have a nasty habit of showing up, and everyone has a secret. Between eccentric family reunions, a string of bodies dropping like flies, and a magical showdown that’s anything but ordinary, the team will have to navigate the chaos or risk becoming part of the mess themselves.

In this hilarious, fast-paced urban fantasy adventure, Sugar Plums and Death’s Intern proves that sometimes, the real danger comes from the family you never asked for—and the enemies you never saw coming.

Sugar Plums and Death’s Intern is book nine in The Enchanted Woods Cottagecore Series.

This book is set in the Reapers Universe. A stand-alone misadventure from the Intern Diaries. You don’t need the full files to survive this story. If you enjoy Supernatural and True Blood, the crew of Sugar Plums and Death’s Intern will keep you turning pages while wishing you were in your own cottage sipping tea.

Winner of an Honorable Mention in the Writer’s Digest 26th Annual Self Published Book Awards in the fiction category.
“This fresh and intriguing plot offers a workaday waitress against Death incarnate, only with a sardonic sense of humor. The first person narration gives the reader limited insight into the protagonist as we follow her journey into a world where Death (also a female) is more interested in souls than last breaths. The concept is clever since it offers the tension of an actual soul-napping competitor to Death for the souls of those just-dead folks.” Judge, 26th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards.

Tales of Christmas Villains  (The Tales Short Story Collection Book 2) Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

A unique twist on the holiday season comes to town as horror and fantasy authors tackle Christmas in the short story collection “Tales of Christmas Villains.”

The Synopsis

Ruined holiday plans and stolen gifts are only the beginning in this collection of villains gone wild for the holidays!

Tales of Christmas Villains brings together the most mischievous batch of scrooges, thieves, and humbugs out to wreak havoc on the Christmas cheer.

Featuring a chilling ice fairy who feeds on her victims’ souls, chaotic criminals disguised as grinches, and the infamous Jack Frost meeting his match in a plucky mermaid, these wicked adventures will have you howling with dark delight.

If you think you’ve got enough spirit to take on these troublemakers, think again. The naughty list just got longer and more sinister! So watch out this season and prepare for some seriously spirited scroogery – Tales of Christmas Villains is coming to town!

The Review

A truly fun and entertaining take on the holiday season, each story does an incredible job of leaning into their respective genres while sprinkling some yuletide magic into the setting. The action and suspense that each story holds not only do justice to the existing universes that these authors have crafted but also add more dimension by exploring unique holiday mythology and culture.

As a longtime fan of D.C. Gomez and her books, seeing a story centered around Bartholomew the Reaper and exploring that paranormal world, which felt like returning home, was great. The twist on the iconic Grinch story by adding the Reaper twist on their existence and the balance of humor and wit made this story shine as much as the entire collection.

The Verdict

Entertaining, magical, and thrilling, “Tales of Christmas Villains” is a must-read holiday fantasy/horror short story collection. The twists on iconic Christmas figures and myths, from the Grinch to Jack Frost and even Santa himself, and the harmonious blend of fantasy and holiday spirit that this collection boasted made this a memorable read. If you haven’t yet, be sure to grab your copy today!
