The Review

What a profound and moving read! The author did a remarkable job of finding a unique balance between the rich history set during both world wars and the thriller and romance settings with a paranormal time-bending twist. The characters feel dynamic and vivid, harkening back to eras long gone yet familiar in their motivations and emotional depth, drawing readers further into the narrative.

The almost rhythmic nature of the author’s writing style was a significant draw into the story more and more. The imagery brought these settings to life so eloquently, highlighting the stark contrast between the desire of the protagonist to understand her birthright and the horrors of war and the growing hostility that grew for certain marginalized groups amongst the people of Germany at the time. The honesty and depth for which the author explores both teh highs and lows of humanity as a whole, from the emotional connection the protagonist and narrator forms with the figures of the past she comes into contact with, to the haunting realities of Nazi experimentation and heinous acts they committed during WWII, allowed the reader to connect with the protagonist on a more personal level.

The Verdict

Memorable, heartfelt, and engaging, author Marina Osipova’s BEELITZ-HEILSTÄTTEN: Where Ghosts Never Die is a must-read historical fiction meets thriller and paranormal mystery novel. The narrative’s twists and turns and the complex emotional journey the narrator finds themselves on speak to the questions of identity, being honest with oneself, and learning from the past that this book’s themes explore easily. Wet, Warm and Noisy: A Jake Ward Novel by David A. Wilson Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review All opinions are my own.

An Alaskan State Trooper battling cancer finds a routine investigation turning into a complex web of mystery and intrigue in author David A. Wilson’s “Wet, Warm and Noisy: A Jake Ward Novel”.

The Synopsis

The human brain is too wet, warm and full of random noise to sustain quantum activity. Or so we thought…

Surrounded by the unforgiving climate of the frozen north, Jake Ward, a tenacious Alaska State Trooper Investigator and cancer survivor, is on a relentless quest to regain his health and return to full-duty status.

But Ward’s world takes a bone-chilling turn during a routine polygraph examination when a woman escapes custody, leaving an officer critically injured. What started as an ordinary investigation transforms into a complex web of intrigue, where medical experimentation and consciousness collide.

In “Wet, Warm, and Noisy,” Willson masterfully blurs the boundaries between law enforcement and science fiction, leading readers on a heart-pounding journey through a realm where the tangible and the mysterious intersect. With time slipping away, can Ward decipher the enigmas that defy reason, or will dark forces overwhelm him?

With over two decades of experience as an Alaska State Trooper, author David A. Willson brings a rare authenticity to crime fiction that will both enlighten and captivate you. Prepare yourself for an electrifying thriller that challenges the very foundations of our reality.

The Review

What a rich and compelling mystery read. The author did an incredible job of layering this story with a suspenseful atmosphere and the chilling tension that mounted as the story progressed. The inclusion of science fiction into the story was a welecome twist, and exploring a medical sci-fi mystery that touched upon life after death and so much more helped elevate the overall mystery of the novel.

The heart of this narrative was in the character development. Ward was a great protagonist, with the balance of his perosnal life with his new case showcasing the heart and drive of the story’s hero. The mystery behind Bella, especially her standing in the case as  either a victim or a criminal (or both?), and the shocking villain of this story helped to make the overall plot more grounded and eerie as the story progressed.

The Verdict

A remarkable blend of medical sci-fi and mystery thriller, author David A. Wilson’s “Wet, Warm and Noisy: A Jake Ward Novel” is a must-read book.. The twists and turns in teh suspenseful tale and the heart that was poured into the character arcs in this novel a

Traumergy by Patrick R. Carberry Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

An MIT professor and former FBII intelligence officer works to unravel a conspiracy after discovering a new form of energy based on past trauma in the novel “Traumergy” by Patrick r. Carberry.

Advertisements

The Synopsis

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Professor Peter Morley is a retired FBI Intelligence Officer and Christian who becomes a neutrino physicist at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He started using new technology which identified a new form of energy based on traumatic past events he calls “Traumergy” which display events in the form of holograms.

While, working on a prototype of Traumergy Professor Morley identifies a conspiracy. The leaders of the company plan to go public based on stolen technology from MIT. Professor Morley works to find the truth using Traumergy and identifies a timeline which first started in 33AD.

The Review

The author was able to craft a mystery and a thought-provoking narrative in a short amount of time. The quick escalation of the scientific discovery that came with Traumergy and the exploration of what both the government and private corporations will do when faced with new technology was significantly represented by the conspiracy the protagonist came against in this novel. The world-building and the character arcs in this short novella made the story feel tangible and inviting, with an incredible story that readers could get lost in.

The heart of this story rests in the idea and concepts surrounding the bridge between science and spirituality. While many religious readers will be able to identify with the protagonist and his shared balance between both worlds, even non-religious individuals can engage with this story. The idea that trauma and traumatic events throughout both personal and world history can make an actual physical impact on an environment has always stood out to me as both a reader and a paranormal investigator, and exploring the different applications that energy can impact our world was a great source of storytelling in this book.

The Verdict

Author Patrick R. Carberry’s “Traumergy” is a must-read religious meets mystery sci-fi thriller that beautifully fuses theoretical physics, spirituality, and a mystery thriller element. The narrative twists and turns and the emotional and spiritual aspect of the story’s main plot will keep readers invested in this thought-provoking tale. The Review

What a genuinely mesmerizing and haunting noir thriller meets mystery read. The depths of layering the author did with this narrative were superb, allowing the reader to quickly get lost in the unfolding mystery as it unraveled before their eyes. The way the author constantly escalated the danger and story was excellent, starting rapidly with the case of the missing child and a bed of complex conspiracies being discovered on both sides of the law as time passed.

The incredible world-building and character development were terrific. The thought-provoking twists in the characters’ stories and the mesmerizing way the author presented new challenges that made each character suspect at times while also giving readers and the protagonists a familiar foe to face made the characters’ arcs that much more powerful. Getting multiple perspectives on the mystery allowed readers to be confronted by this haunting narrative on numerous fronts.

Grand Slam New York

The Review

The author did a marvelous job of honing in on the real-life fear and terror many American families found themselves in during the late 80s. The setting, set during the Satanic Panic era, made this a compelling story. The mass hysteria and the criminals who preyed on the terror gripping the nation made this story feel very atmospheric.

As with the previous entries in this series, the heart of the narrative rested in the character development. The very personal and challenging nature of the crime the protagonist is investigating, as well as the shocking twists and turns the narrative takes, will leave fans eager for more adventures from this new private investigator lead. The gritty imagery the author’s writing utilized brought these crimes and the perpetrators to life in a visceral way, allowing the reader to feel the natural horror building up in this crime thriller.

The Review

This was a compelling and gripping thriller. The author did an incredible job of layering the mystery and atmosphere into this book’s writing, elevating the characters and keeping the reader invested in the overall narrative. The writing style, allowing multiple POVs for the characters in this book, felt very reminiscent of a Dean Koontz novel, giving each character’s voice a part of the overall story.

The heart of this narrative rested in the author’s ability to use imagery and tension to build up the growing suspense that this narrative held. The attention to detail the narrative gave to today’s political and social conflicts really helped bring the reader into the narrative more fully, and the growing horrors that these characters faced felt more shocking as they reflected our own world much more thoroughly.

The Review

This was an exhilarating and shocking thriller. The author did a fantastic job of finding an original and thought-provoking mystery that would entice readers and keep them on the edge of their seats as the story unfolded. The even pacing of the story and the imagery that the author’s writing evoked really brought to life the setting both past and present into the account.

The rich character development and the dynamic history that the author was able to infuse into this story really made the mystery and atmosphere come to life perfectly. The tension that built amongst the characters, especially for the protagonist and her journey as the layers of this mystery unravel piece by piece, is made even more fraught as the ancient pieces of this secret society begin to come into place and the dangers become even more elevated.

A man shot in his car leads an investigator into a web of conspiracy involving a group of white supremacists and a shocking series of murders in author David E. Feldman’s “A Divisive Storm”, the sixth book in the Dora Ellison Mystery series.

Advertisements

The Synopsis

This dark mystery thriller features a stunning twist that turns the tables on the story’s white supremacy angle.

Ray Drucker is shot in the face while sitting in his car in a drugstore parking lot, and his wife has hired Dora to find his killer. Dora quickly learns that his murder is connected to another, five years earlier. As the bodies pile up, Dora and Missy find that the killings are connected to a dark and violent web of white supremacists.

The victims were all members of a club with a barely hidden racist agenda.

ABN Banner

The Review

This was yet another truly compelling and captivating mystery thriller! The author has crafted a crime thriller that continuously keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, with twist after twist forcing the reader to question who the killer may be and whether or not the victims were truly victims at all. The tension was palpable as it built over the course of this mystery, from the personal tension in the protagonist’s lives to the tension that arose with each and every new piece of evidence that was found.

To me, the author has done an exceptional job of crafting characters that feel fully realized, and of creating a balance of chilling and heartfelt atmospheres using multiple POVs. The emotional and haunting perspective that readers get from the killer’s mindset and the complicated feelings that Dora gets as she investigates more and more of this case made this story so inviting, and the way the author was able to incorporate more personal story points like Missy’s family and the problems they face was great to see included in this story as well.

The Verdict

Thrilling, haunting, and entertaining, author David E. Feldman’s “A Divisive Storm” is a must-read mystery thriller. The powerful themes of LGBTQ-driven storylines and character growth, as well as the emotionally complex nature of this killer and the truth of these victims’ lives, made this a driven suspense thriller that readers will be talking about long after the book is finished. Interview with Author David E. Feldman

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into writing?

I got into writing by reading. I was a bit of a troublemaker as a child and I often skipped school. The way I got my education, for the most part, was by reading. I first fell in love with science fiction in my early teens. I read Asimov, Heinlein, Silverberg and, particularly, Ray Bradbury, whose lyrical, descriptive style influenced my own. Later on I fell in love with John Steinbeck whose East of Eden is quite possibly my favorite non-mystery. When it comes to mysteries and thrillers I have many favorites: Harlan Coben, Lee Child, C.J. Box, John Sandford among them.

Advertisements

2) What inspired you to write your book?

Because I write full time, I do my best to write in such a way as to both write what I love—which is mystery-thrillers—and maximize my readership. To that end I write series. Dora Ellison is at present a six-book (five novels and a short prequel) series. My hope is that folks will read one, like what they’ve read, and continue on to read the whole series. In this book I wrote about people with special needs, which is one of several issues I choose to focus on. Who will care for these people when their families are gone? The state? If so, will they do a good job? I have a niece, Zoe, who is 24 and has never spoken nor walked. She is an inspiration!

3) What theme or message do you hope readers will take away from your book?

Well, I hope they enjoy the ride the books take them on. Beyond that, Dora cannot tolerate bullies—those who prey on people who are weaker or less fortunate. That’s an important issue for me.

4) What drew you into this particular genre?

I love reading this genre. Lee and Andrew Child’s Jack Reacher books have been a heavy influence. Dora has qualities in common with Jack Reacher, though my books are very different from Mr. Child’s.

Bookbaby.com helping independents – whether authors, publishers, musicians, filmmakers, or small businesses – bring their creative efforts to the marketplace.

5) If you could sit down with any character in your book, what would you ask them and why?

I would ask Dora whether she is ever content. She is a driven woman who reflects the fact that, even at 66, I am a driven man!

6) What social media site has been the most helpful in developing your readership?

Facebook. I am in many Facebook readers/writers groups and have benefited both by gaining readers and by learning from more experienced authors.

ABN Banner

7) What advice would you give to aspiring or just starting authors out there?

Write, write, write. Every day. It’s a muscle. If you work it, it will strengthen. Then read your own work, then reread. Seek feedback and pay attention to it.

8) What does the future hold in store for you? Any new books/projects on the horizon?

I am nearing completion of Dora Ellison Book 6—A Divisive Storm. I am also working on a standalone novel called Percival, that is a fictionalized account of my father’s life. My dad had polio at age 2 and lost nearly all the use of his left leg and some of the use of his right leg. And yet he was an accomplished musician; he taught a variety of forms of cooking. And, of course, he married and raised a family. He was an amazing man!
