This was an intriguing and memorable read. The author found the perfect balance between personal anecdotes and teachable lessons that helped show the potential for leadership in everyone. The book was fast-paced and kept the reader invested in the personal stories of the author’s life that helped illustrate the lessons each chapter was illustrating, using a perfect blend of imagery and atmosphere to get their point across.

The two biggest talking points that will resonate with readers are faith and leadership. The author goes to great lengths to show how leadership potential resides within us all, and it is through hard work and nurturing those skills within us that we are able to become the leaders we can be. The author’s unique perspective comes from their strong belief in their faith, and this will appeal to many people in the business world who also hold a strong faith and wish to utilize their faith’s practices in how they approach business models and leadership roles both in business and in life altogether.

Immediately I was struck by the author’s personable and engaging writing style. The voice the author found within the writing allowed the reader to feel more connected to the author’s message and oftentimes made it feel like a casual conversation rather than a book. So often self-help books will preach or speak at the reader rather than to the reader, and the author really did an amazing job of finding that balance between education and inspiration that this genre of book needs.

The overall emotional core of the book’s message resides in the embracing of failure. By accepting setbacks and the loss that comes from failure, the author shows how we can overcome our self-sabotaging ways, focusing instead on building ourselves up and clearing the mental barriers in our own minds to become our best selves, such as the barriers that form around our need to compare ourselves to others and their achievements or allowing our fears to control our actions.

The Verdict

Compelling, insightful, and empowering, author Byron Morrison’s “Maybe You Should Give Up” is a must-read nonfiction book for self-help and empowerment. This was a unique and powerful read. The author’s ability to write in a way that felt both educational yet relatable to everyone was a great use of voice and tone, and the philosophical discussions that the author’s work brings up help to bridge the gap between religion and psychology as a whole new way, allowing for the reader to really take the time to explore their own lives and the impact that one’s faith and morality can impact their lives directly.

For me, the connection the author formed between religion and psychology was such an impactful writing and philosophy tool. The symbolism and creativity that the author used in showcasing the story of Eve and her experiences throughout the book of Genesis, and how the author was able to relay that information to our own understanding of the universe as a whole and our place in it in regards to our own identity and psyche was amazing to see come to life.

The Verdict

Heartfelt, thoughtful, and engaging, author Maria Liviero’s “Why We Make Bad Choices” is a must-read self-help and nonfiction read for both religious and psychology enthusiasts alike. The passion for which the author wrote and the information that the book imparts to the reader made this a truly compelling read and made for a great balance with the more interactive aspect of the book’s themes. The Review

This was a well-written and inspiring read. The overall atmosphere and tone the author set felt very positive and confident, really selling the reader the confidence they would need to make these changes to their outlook on life and the things holding them back. The personable writing style the author adapted made the personal experiences the author reflected on feel more relatable and spoke to the reader in a natural way. 

To me, the heart of the narrative lay in the way the author used positivity and encouragement to tackle the impact mental health has on both our daily lives as well as our professional lives. Mental health is a real issue facing our world and without addressing it and making it part of the normal fabric of our society’s way of thinking, the negative thoughts and emotions the author addresses in this book would continue to spiral out of control, impacting our drive to move forward. The author’s guided steps and lessons helped to address this issue and made for an even more inspiring read.

The Review

This was a very well-written and informative read. The authors did such an incredible job of showcasing the balance of knowledge the reader will gain from this book with the emotional weight of the experiences they shared together to get these lessons learned. The way the authors highlight the paths that both a parent and the teenager must take to find one another again and find that understanding between them was such a profound moment to get to in the book.

For me, the heart of the book rests in the author’s presentation of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and the way the authors analyze the reasons behind this change in the relationship and where the anxiety stems from. One of the initial thoughts the author shares really feels profound in its delivery and relatable: your child is no longer your child, but your teen. Almost as if the child you knew has become a completely different person, understanding and accepting this notion really can help the process of finding some common ground and helping the person you care so much for find help in their anxiety and stress. The way the authors outline these CBT techniques with very emotional memories made this a beautiful and educational read.

The Verdict

Heartfelt, captivating, and engaging, authors Maggie and Renee Lovange’s “Dealing with Teen Anxiety” is a must-read nonfiction book on parenting and relationships between parents and their adult teen children. The short yet powerful read, accompanied by helpful worksheets and journals to help work through these techniques, made this such an incredible book, and the unique perspective the authors take as both the parent in the relationship and the former teen in the relationship give this book both legitimacy and honesty that other readers will be able to relate to. I have experience raising children, not just as a stay-at-home mom but as a working mom. I was a single mother with my first child. In today’s informational world, we are overwhelmed by a lot of information. Very often, the information you can find about a problem needs to be more consistent or made up. I am a mathematician, and my logic is very highly developed. On the other hand, I love reading and discovering new concepts and ideas. What I do is find the connections between different scientific studies and explain them in a way that is practical and easy to understand. A great example of this is cognitive behavioural therapy – which is complex. It took me about three months to research it and find different sources to be able to explain it as something utterly applicable in every person’s daily life.

Of course, being an author and a mother is not always easy. There are days when I feel like I am pulled in a million different directions. Seeing the impact that my writing has on others is the most rewarding thing I could ever ask for. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

As my children grow older, I know that new challenges and topics will require my attention as a writer. But I am ready for whatever comes my way. Writing is not just a job or a hobby for me; it’s a calling. It’s a way to connect with others and make a difference in the world.

Writing a book is not easy, but the rewards are immeasurable. And as a mother, there is nothing more satisfying than knowing that you have positively impacted your child’s life and the lives of others.

This was one of the freshest and most relatable reads on the world of business and entrepreneurship that I’ve read in a long time. The author did a fantastic job of utilizing both personal stories, research, and the power of intuition to showcase the lessons that she learned in her time as a business leader herself. What immediately stuck with me as I read this book was the way the author was able to connect very pointed and specific ideas on self-improvement that are found in many books on this subject by using a more general and holistic perspective. One of the most challenging things a person can come up against is life itself getting in the way of self-improvement. From an overwhelming workload to conflict within our relationships and ailments of both the mind and body, there will always be obstacles preventing us from achieving our innermost goals. 

The relatability of the author’s writing style and the multi-pronged approach to the guide itself on growth and change in our lives was brilliantly presented within this book. The honesty and clarity with which the author delivered his message and the experiences that informed his views were thoughtfully crafted and showcased the wealth of knowledge this book presents. 

The Verdict

In-depth, passionately written, and engaging, author Dr. Manish Sethi’s “The Art of Holistic Living” is a must-read guide on balancing our lives and improving our own selves. The balance of the author’s work in matters of spiritual, physical, and mental health was greatly emphasized in this book and the depth of information that the author is able to bring to such a short yet powerful read made this one enlightening experience. The blend of energy work and emotional support that the author’s work promotes was great to see come to life on the page.

The step-by-step guided work that the author outlines in this book was both easy to follow and thoughtful in its approach. The way the author was able to hone in on both physical and emotional aspects of life that could impact our emotional state or well-being was insightful, and the balance of personal storytelling of her own life experiences with the guided work she put into place will help keep readers invested in the work itself.

Antoniella Del Vecchio attended Marist College for a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Long Island University for a master’s degree in mental health counseling. Antoniella is also certified as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor, her area of specialty for the last ten years.
