The Review

This was such an insightful and engaging book. The authors did an amazing job of taking the reader through the journey of wedding planning in great detail without losing themselves to an overabundance of backstories. The way authors were able to craft an interactive and educational read that has real-world practical applications that the reader will be able to share immediately.

The breakdown of information and reliability of the authors and their work is what stood out to me. The way the authors take the reader through every step of the wedding planning process, from the moment that you become engaged to the moment the wedding is over, was fantastic to read about, as there are so many aspects of the wedding process that the average reader doesn’t even think about. From the emotional side of things like learning how to be present in the moment of the wedding day to the finances and practical side of things that come with setting a budget with the person funding the wedding, this book does a great job of delving into the most important information that readers will be able to apply immediately.

The Verdict

Informative, thoughtful, and engaging, authors Edna Dratch-Parker and Jeri Solomon’s “Guide to Smart Wedding Planning” is a must-read book for the engaged couple seeking help with their wedding this season. The Review

This was such a detailed and informative read. The author did an amazing job of creating memorable and heartfelt nonfiction read that allowed readers to both connect with the author and his experiences and the specific tools and parts that are needed to service the various parts of a vehicle. The chapters go into wonderful detail on these aspects of detailing, from the materials that are used in a vehicle’s part and what is needed to keep it maintained and “healthy”, to the impact a car’s physical attributes and cleanliness have on a person both physically and emotionally.

The knowledge and straightforward writing style the author utilizes in this book does an amazing job of keeping readers invested in the narrative and finds the perfect way of keeping readers engaged on the technical side of detailing and the inspiring aspect of the author’s own experiences and writing style. The human aspect of this book comes through the impact a car’s appearance and performance have on a person’s social status, as well as the impact it has on everyday life as well. It also allows readers to see the pros and cons of utilizing at-home care for your vehicle as opposed to professional help and the cost of both roads.

The Verdict

Thoughtful, educational, and engaging, author S.L. Lucas’s “Driveway Detailing Warrior: DIY Money-Saving Guide to Sports Car Detailing at Home on a Budget” is a must-read nonfiction book on automobiles, vehicle care, and detail in general. The rich wealth of information that the author imparts to the reader blends well with the human impact of car care both on the vehicle and on the car owner in their social status and financial impacts as well, making this a well-rounded read overall. My First Last Year by Roger Leslie, PhD Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

After surviving a health scare with his husband in the 80s, author Roger Leslie developed a system of health, both physical and mental, that takes the concept of living life to the fullest to all new heights in the book, “My First Last Year”.

The Synopsis

In response to a spiritual dream, Roger Leslie lived a year as if it were his last. New inspirations set his course for success, while heartbreaking loss gave him a palpable glimpse of eternity. Leslie shares his journey here as a guide for anyone seeking deeper meaning, richer love, and greater joy in life.

The Review

The author did an incredible job of crafting a moving and passionate self-help meets nonfiction wellness read. The journey of discovery that so many people go on in life to determine how they should live each and every day is something we must all endure, and more often than not those who are facing their own demise or mortality find themselves forced to discover the answers for themselves fairly quickly. The balance the author struck between personal experience and emotional writing with instructive and detailed steps that readers could apply to their own lives was amazing to see play out in this book.

The powerful themes and heartfelt writing style are what hooked me on the author’s story. The moments the author takes to delve into his own personal histories, such as his and his husband’s brush with one of the most fearful health scare that many faced in the 80s, the AIDS crisis, and how this experience and coming out on the other side of it inspired a moment of clarity as to living life to the fullest was so impactful and emotional to read.

The Verdict

Heartfelt, captivating, and engaging, author Roger Leslie’s “My First Last Year” is a must-read nonfiction self-help read. The powerful themes of living life to the fullest, making every day count, and coming to terms with our own mortality were so strong and powerfully felt in this read, and the natural way the author was able to infuse the personal experience with thought-provoking guides to the author’s researched and developed method made this a compelling read. Making Your Mark | Leaving a Legacy | And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin’ by Peter Davidson Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Author Peter Davidson shares this self-help guide to readers in an effort to showcase how to best leave behind a legacy for the people in your life after you are gone in the book “Making Your Mark | Leaving a Legacy | And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin’”.

The Synopsis

If you want your life to amount to more than just anonymously passing through this world unnoticed, this book is for you. It describes how you can make your mark on your family, friends, and society and how you can create a legacy that will benefit future generations.

When the time comes for you to leave this world, you can go out with class, style, and pizzazz, just like you lived your life, There are many options, possibilities, and decisions involved in planning a final farewell as we will see as we watch the Grand Exit of Timothy A.B. Smythe. Timothy’s Grand Exit will have people’s tongues waggin’ for a long time and it can serve as an inspiration for your final farewell when the time comes.

Much of the information in the book is presented in true stories, scenarios, and examples that are upbeat, often humorous, and fun to read.

The Review

This was a powerful and engaging read. The author did an amazing job of crafting this book in a way that felt both productive and enlightening all at once, while also capturing a tone and writing style that felt at ease and casual as if the book were just a normal conversation between two friends rather than a simple guide from the author to the reader. The themes of life and death were so strong in this book and did a great job of highlighting the message of legacy and what it means to make a mark on this world.

What stood out to meet was the author’s ability to bring a lightness to an otherwise upsetting subject like death. The attitude and confidence that the author has given readers to take the reins of death’s impending embrace and instead find a way of living life to the fullest were amazing to read. From leaving your name on a park or park bench and starting a charity in your name to writing a book or creating a product with your name embedded into the product’s title, the author lays out some great methods of leaving a mark on the world that makes people remember you long after you are gone. Yet it was the author’s ability to find positive ways of dealing with death, both in the time leading up to it and to the actual event itself, that gave a more inspirational tone to one’s demise than the heartbreak it so often brings.

The Verdict

A gripping, thoughtful, and engaging nonfiction, self-help style read, author Peter Davidson’s “Making Your Mark | Leaving a Legacy | And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin’” is a must-read book of 2022. A beautiful way of bringing lightheartedness and warmth to an otherwise cold and painful experience, the author not only shows how to lean into death with dignity and power, but how to live life to the fullest and on your own terms, and makes the perfect companion to leaving a legacy that the world will never forget. The Review

This was such a fascinating read. The author did a great job of striking a balance between the history and lessons that those historical moments and the more personal and intimate moments from the author’s life. What is so great about this balance is that the history and lessons showcase the context of the book itself and the research that went into developing this read, while the more personal moments the author puts in the showcase the impact these lessons have had on his own experiences and shows the expertise that developed as a result.

The fast pace of the book and the inspirational tone that the author strikes were great motivators when delving into this read. The world we live in now can be quite morose and painful to observe, filled with racism, sexism, gun violence, and so much more. The authors can relate to some of these issues like climate control and racism and use history as a springboard to look at how learning from the past was truly moving. Learning early on about the difference between stoicism and epicureanism was fascinating to see as well, and definitely allowed me to open my mind up to new ways to observe history as a whole.

The Verdict

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. At least according to Philosopher George Santayana, that is the case, and author James Giombetti’s “The Lessons of History – Observed” is a brilliant, engaging, and thought-provoking journey into this lesson. The history buff in me was so interested in this subject matter, and the use of both ancient history and more modern history was great to see play out in this self-help motivational read. The Review

This was such a comprehensive and detailed read. The collective creators and people who go by the name Ivi Green do a wonderful job of creating an easy-to-read guide and found the perfect balance between written content and bright and colorful imagery to help illustrate the points the passages are making. The amazing content allowed for readers to have some sort of information and guide to not only their teenage years but their adult years as well.

I loved the wide variety of topics the collective group of creators brought to this book. The Verdict

Thought-provoking, engaging, and interactive, the collective of Ivi Green’s “Life Skill 101: Everything You Need, But Won’t Learn in School” is a must-read book. The way the writers and creators were able to include both fact-based graphs and information with more personal and emotional-based writing allowed for a much more well-rounded read, and the book also makes for a great reference read in case teenagers need to go back and study up on issues facing them in certain moments of their lives. The Seven Graces of Ageless Aging: How to Die Young As Late in Life As Possible by Jason Elias Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Author Jason Elias takes readers on a journey into what it means to be a member of the elderly community and how to show the world their continued value and worth to the world as a whole in the book, “The Seven Graces of Ageless Aging: How to Die Young As Late in Life as Possible”.

Advertisements

The Synopsis

The Seven Graces of Ageless Aging synthesizes and simplifies the components of conscious aging into a primer for individuals who are concerned about their own aging process and for those caring for the elderly who seek an enlightened understanding of how all of us may approach aging more consciously and, gracefully. In short, these Seven Graces can serve as stepping-stones toward attaining emotional or spiritual wholeness as we age.

Elderhood can be a time of reckoning, a time to look inside, to wonder where we have been, and where we are not going.The message of The Seven Graces of Ageless Aging is less about how to live a long life, and more about supporting vitality, being present, finding meaning and purpose, and sustaining a youthful heart-well into old age.

To shed light on this reckoning, I have interviewed and highlight the stories of a dozen individuals in their late seventies, eighties, and nineties, and one over one hundred. They are mentors, clients, and close friends. Each of these remarkable individuals, in his or her way, has refused to accept the timeworn script that equates old age with decrepitude. Instead, they have chosen to rewrite the script and embrace old age with dignity and grace. Listening carefully to their stories and insights inspired me and quieted my own fears about aging. They have become my Pathfinders, modern-day sages, who share their wisdom and experiences throughout this book.

In essence, as our Pathfinders show us, aging need not dictate dismal decline. When we debunk the negative preconceived notions of aging, we can even reverse the aging process. The studies cited in this book, along with the Pathfinders’ collective, lived experience and my 50 years in the healing arts, offer solid guidelines, practical resources, and inspiration for those who want to learn how to follow Dr. Ashley Montagu’s advice and die young as late in life as possible.

The Seven Graces of Ageless Aging include:

Rewriting the Script: reframing what it means to grow old;

Finding Your Tribe: honoring the importance of good relationships;

Practicing Mindfulness: learning techniques that enable us to live in the moment (the eternal NOW);

Awakening Joy through Simplicity and Humor: living a simple, appreciative, and accepting life;

Pursuing Your Passion: clarifying a long-dreamed vision or unrealized idea and practicing it;

Moving and Being Moved: exercising sensibly on a regular basis to prevent stagnation and enhance mental, emotional and physical vigor, acuity, and creativity;

Nurturing Your Body, the Temple of the Divine: giving your body the essentials it needs to thrive (clean air, nourishing food, pure drinking water, and loving relationships).

The Review

One of the first things that I noticed about this book that readers are going to love is that this is the kind of book that becomes interactive with time. The author does an incredible job of building a book that causes readers to make notes, earmark pages, and keep tabs to come back time and time again as certain pieces of advice or steps the author has outlined become relevant to the reader’s life. The thorough and thoughtful way the author presented these chapters was well balanced with the personable and warmth of both the author’s words and the interviewees who participated to share their wisdom and views on life as we get older.

I absolutely loved the duality of this book’s audience, as it not only speaks to older generations about how to not give in to any given narrative on how they are supposed to live their lives in their “golden years”, but also speaks to younger generations on how to live life to the fullest at all times, to find the people or community that will allow us to be our best selves, and to stop focusing on “perfection” as an ideal and instead learn to love ourselves and those around us as they are. The way the author is able to give tribute and honor to each interviewee and share these stories while accomplishing the goal of laying out these 7 goals makes this such a memorable read.

The Verdict

Honest, thoughtful, and engaging, author Jason Elias’s “The Seven Graces of Ageless Aging: How to Die Young As Late in Life As Possible” is a must-read book. The personal and memorable way the author was able to blend the stories of these incredible people with the lifelong lessons that readers can turn to time and again made for an absolute heartfelt read. A Well-Launched Life: How Young People Can Live An Intentional, Fulfilling Life by Bruce Sheridan Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

Author Bruce Sheridan helps readers to find the tools and lessons that young people transitioning into adulthood will need to lead a successful life in the book “A Well-Launched Life: How Young People Can Live An Intentional, Fulfilling Life”.

Advertisements

The Synopsis

Transitioning from teen year to becoming a self-sufficient adult can be a rocky road, littered with many choices to make and potholes to navigate. Choices like, should you go to college? What kind of career do you want? Will you make enough money to live and save for the lifestyle you want? What type of partner are you looking for? The choices you make during this time will impact the rest of your life, so you must choose carefully.

The purpose of this book is to introduce you to a practical and simple method to plan and live a God-centered life with few mistakes and regrets. A Well-Launched Life is chocked full of practical advice on these important questions and looks at more personal questions surrounding addiction, premarital sex, and dealing with all types of abuse. You’ll learn from author Bruce Sheridan’s hilarious and sometimes treacherous real-life examples about how to, or not to navigate this defining decade.

The Review

The author does a fantastic job of capturing the personal and real-life experiences of his own life in a way that feels both relatable to readers and teachable as a means of showcasing to younger readers the path to adulthood that he himself took. The fast pace and the way the author was able to tackle not just the more humorous or light-hearted lessons life dealt him, but the more in-depth and mistake-treaded paths he crossed, made this book just sail smoothly from the onset.

The care and attention the author took to more sensitive subjects and troubling situations, from abuse to addiction and everything in between was great to see handled in such a delicate yet much-needed way. While I myself may not, in particular, be religious, I found the book to be greater geared towards young people who are seeking a means of keeping their faith and beliefs alive while striking a harmonious chord with their responsibilities and choices in life overall.

The Verdict

Powerful, heartfelt, and engaging, to say the least, author Bruce Sheridan’s “A Well-Launched Life: How Young People Can Live An Intentional, Fulfilling Life” is a must-read nonfiction and inspirational book. The author’s honest and humbling approach to the topic, as well as his unique approach from a balance of faith and life lessons, will appeal to those seeking a more faith-based inspiration for growing up and taking on the challenges life will throw young people as they turn towards adulthood. The Review

This was a captivating and thought-provoking read. The author did a fantastic job of writing in a way that taught the readers new skills and tools to use in their own personal development but wrote it in a way that the average reader would be able to understand, something a lot of self-help books find themselves missing the mark on. The personability and honesty in which the author spoke established a trusting and thoughtful tone that readers felt comfortable reading in.

The theme and messages that the author utilizes here in these teachings were remarkable to read. The exploration of self-efficacy and self-compassion was an inspired choice of organizing and utilizing these skills. The dive into the inner and exterior forces that diminish our self-worth and drive our lives out of our control was so brilliantly put, and the author did a great job of balancing the teachable moments of the book with engaging and heartfelt storytelling to help illustrate his points.

About the Author

Hi, I am David R Edwards, author of “New You! Who Knew?”.  A few years ago I was CEO of a Community Health Center creating the leading integrated, person-focused, primary care center in the country.  In my interaction with patients, advocates, professionals from different disciplines, and my own pondering and study I had an epiphany, you know a “WOW” moment. People are missing core skills that if they had would make their lives so much better.  I left my well-paying job and embarked on researching and writing a book to help regular people learn the principles and skills needed to become the captain of their own life. “
