Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into writing?

Hi, I’m Maria Jane, romance author. In other books I’m Tricia Copeland, fantasy author. Writing and reading are my life. Okay, I might do a couple of other things like run and read, hike and read, and snuggle with my dog and read. I began writing over ten years ago with a fictionalized account of my experience with an eating disorder and haven’t stopped yet.

What inspired you to write your book?

The Perfect romance series was inspired by my aim to write something fun, heartwarming, but also relevant to true-to-live issues many of us face in early adulthood.

What theme or message do you hope readers will take away from your book?

Perfect is all about everything and nothing being perfect. It’s meant to show that in different stages of our lives, no matter what path we find ourselves on, there’s something that can be perfect, right where you are in the journey.

What drew you into this particular genre?

I love creating books that I would love to read. I love fantasy as well as dystopian genres, but those story lines can contain a lot of perilous moments. In my romances the worst that that’s going to happen is the love interest deciding he’s not that into you. 

If you could sit down with any character in your book, what would you ask them and why?

What in the heck was Chloe thinking being with X. Sorry, can’t say his name. It might give too much away.

What social media site has been the most helpful in developing your readership?

I’m loving Instagram reels, TikTok, and YouTube.

What advice would you give to aspiring or just starting authors out there?

I would tell aspiring authors to write what you love and find good people to help you in the journey.

What does the future hold in store for you? Any new books/projects on the horizon?

The fifth book of my Perfect romance series, Perfect Secrets, releases June 2, 2026. I’m so excited for everyone to experience Elle and Tanner’s story. The next book in the series, My Not-So-Perfect, Cop, is in the works and will release in 2027.
