The Synopsis

HOLIDAY ROAD On the heels of a bad breakup, Amelia Montgomery heads home for the holidays. Her hometown is a far cry from the metropolis where she lives now, but not nearly far enough away from Jake Grayson. TERROR ROAD Amelia’s family festivities turn terrifying when a distraught Jake shows up uninvited on the Montgomery’s doorstep. Jake will not stop until he possesses Amelia; one way or another, she will be his. DEADLY ROAD In a chilling nightmare, one man’s obsession is so evil, it’s deadly. Amelia must fight for her life, and the lives of those she loves most, in the only place she’s ever called home…WINTER ROAD.

THE REVIEW

This was a fast-paced and engaging thriller. The novel was more of a novella, which allowed the reader to feel the adrenaline and tension. The narrative built much more quickly, creating a major impact on the reader as the story progressed. The juxtaposition of the Christmas setting in the small town against the fear and need for survival. The narrative itself, delivered with life on the page, made the story feel vibrant, drawing readers into the characters’ struggles.

The character development was at the heart of this thriller. Amelia is a fantastic protagonist, complex, and readers feel emotionally invested in her story, as she represents so many women who have become trapped in toxic relationships, and the fight to break free of those relationships is at the heart of this story. Jake is a sad yet haunting antagonist, representing the collective toxicity that many men in relationships have proven to be, as his need for control and possessiveness over Amelia drives the horrifying events of this story.

THE VERDICT

Suspenseful, thrilling, and entertaining, author Kristina Rienzi’s Winter Road is a must-read thriller novella. The book itself gave off similar vibes to projects like Fear, yet delivered a wholly unique reading experience that was both atmospheric and laced with tension, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat until the book’s final pages.
