THE REVIEW
The world of personal injury, litigation, and working with people who suffer from disabilities has become even more complicated in our modern world, especially when it comes to the legal system. In this book, the author does an incredible job of laying out in a very succinct and detailed way the steps those who practice these types of cases or who find themselves involved personally in one of these cases need to take in order to protect themselves from scrutiny and backlash from having taken on these cases to begin with.
The knowledge and insight the book provides really shines a light on aspects of the legal system and the health profession as a whole that so many people not involved in those sectors would never have any idea about. The role insurance, such as Medicare, plays in cases like this, and the role of government as well, is astonishing, especially for anyone who has never had to deal with medical insurance in the United States, let alone cases involving those insurance companies or medical malpractice as a whole. The balance the author finds between the legal education and medical knowledge gained from working with those who have been injured or work with permanent disabilities is perfectly executed in this book.
THE VERDICT
Insightful, educational, and memorable, author Jason Lazarus’s “The Art of Settlement” is a must-read non-fiction book on the law and medical professions as a whole. The author writes in a way that is both educational yet easy to comprehend, and yet keeps the book light enough to act as a guide so that both clients, and those who practice in these fields can do further research on their own or seek out professionals in this field to help answer questions that this book helps the reader pose in their own minds, making this an invaluable tool for anyone in these kinds of precarious situations.
