The Synopsis

LIFE AND DEATH ARE JUST A ROLL OF THE DICE

Mass shootings have New Vegas on edge. Detective Alton Cold reluctantly takes the case of a 17 year old school shooter and what he uncovers is far more terrifying than the crime itself.

Teen gambling tied to organized crime and two prominent psychiatrists prescribing a cocktail of drugs, are all linked. Alton believes the drugs and gambling are at the heart of the violence but how?

Are these medications turning ordinary people into killing machines? Who is behind this? The psychiatrists? The mob? Or is this the work of Twilas Burke and his deadly cabal of wealthy industrialists? And if so, for what purpose?

These are the questions Alton and his A.i. car Bessimer, must answer if they are going to stop the mass killings in a place called Bumper City.

THE REVIEW

I absolutely loved this tech noir thriller. The author leaned even further into the dystopian sci-fi atmosphere the first book touched on, also giving readers a deeper dive into who the protagonist, Alton Cold, is as both a detective and a person in the wake of those events.

The powerful imagery in the heavy tension. The novel’s main plot showcases the depth of its thematic storytelling. The book delves into a very sensitive topic in our society today, which is mass shootings. The author does a great job of exploring the emotional and physical toll these events take on those involved and the public as a whole. The author also adds a unique twist, returning to old 30s and 50s noir thrillers that use a single event to highlight a darker conspiracy.

THE VERDICT

Action-packed, suspenseful, and highly engaging, Author Alan McGill’s “Rolling Bones” is a must-read tech noir thriller and a great entry into the Bumper City sci-fi series. The reintroduction of characters from book one helps cement a growing conspiracy in the city of sin, while also allowing characters like the AI-driven car Bessemer to develop more in unique ways. The inclusion of some pretty nefarious villains and the exploration of the protagonist’s detective skills as he handles multiple cases at once add flair and drama that readers who are fans of noir and sci-fi storytelling will absolutely love. If you haven’t yet, please be sure to grab your copy of this fantastic book today!

About the Author

Alan McGill is an American author who lives in an old farmhouse with a clowder of cats. Alan was close to his grandparents, who grew up during the Great Depression. They were married young and remained together until his grandmother’s passing. His grandfather served in the Navy during WWII and was a gifted storyteller who wove humorous tales about tough events. Alan grew up listening to these stories of right and wrong and watching fictional heroes–such as the Lone Ranger, Adam West’s Batman and Captain America–stand up to bullies and protect those who count not protect themselves. This inspired him to always do what was right in his own life and shaped his love of storytelling. He is a multigenre author whose debut novel, A Cry in the Moon’s Light, combines horror, romance, and mystery. As with all his books, A Cry in the Moon’s Light centers on characters who strive to do the right thing regardless of the adversity they face. The book focuses on the theme of love–a pure and deep love that defeats all evil.
