The Synopsis

As Russia bulldozes itself into a new era, an American national dies in a Moscow cell, rumours surface of a CIA operation against one of America’s own allies, and the Russian president disappears.

Pyotr Nikolaevich Kirov of the Special Investigations Department is reluctantly drawn into a tangle of Kremlin intrigue and counterespionage, but it soon becomes clear that not everyone is eager for the old Soviet ways to change.

The deeper Kirov digs, the clearer it becomes that the past has not loosened its grip on Russia at all. Powerful men, long hidden in the shadows, are preparing to take back control—and are willing to use anyone, betray anyone, and destroy anything in order to get it.

Kirov has been thrown to the wolves… and this pack remembers how to kill.

THE REVIEW

This was a compelling and gripping spy thriller meets crime suspense novel. The author struck a balance between intense action and atmospheric suspense as the narrative delved into the growing conspiracy, making the reader feel invested and immersed in this chilling yet powerful story. The level of detail and the story’s geopolitical nature added to the fast-paced, tense emotions running through the novel’s cast of characters.

What really stood out to this reader was how the author distinguished this novel as a spy thriller, kept the reader entertained with both action and crime thriller elements, and also delved into powerful themes of control as elite and government factions hold onto it. With so much unrest around the world these days and tensions between countries still at an all-time high, shifting the focus to a protagonist who sees the threat of an old power trying to rise again in his country and getting to see how that plays out on an international scale, made this narrative a powerful one to follow.

THE VERDICT

Thought-provoking, engaging, and suspenseful, author Jon Weaving’s “To a Wolf The Kill” is a must-read spy crime thriller novel. The twists and turns that the story takes and the compelling final act that will stay and linger in readers’ minds long after the story ends solidify this author‘s mastery of the genre and create a powerful protagonist that readers can care for and root for as the story progresses, and will leave readers eager for more from this incredible author.
