This was a compelling and engaging read. The depth of detail and analysis the author provides, exploring not only the crimes that the Manson family committed and the behavior of Charles Manson himself, but also the exploration of Manson’s childhood and the incidents that most likely contributed to who he became as an adult, in life, was astonishing to see come to life on the page.
The author perfectly balances the facts of the various crimes and the development of Charles Manson’s “Family” with a deeper exploration of the culture during this time in history. The detail and the powerful imagery that come with this kind of analysis highlight the divided culture that allowed not only Charles Manson and his cult to thrive, but cult behavior in general to gain traction and popularity.

Insightful, thought-provoking, and engaging, author Allen Warren’s “Peace, Love and Murder: The Charles Manson Story” is a must-read non-fiction true crime book. The amount of details the author was able to fit into this true crime book, while also infusing new details and complex cultural analysis within a steadily paced read, made the book come to life on the page and kept readers engaged while also leaving room for readers to come back to this book time and time again.
