THE REVIEW

This was a fun and powerful collection of short stories for middle grade and young readers alike. The balance of world building and magical storytelling that the author was able to infuse into each of these short stories was a great way of re-introducing fans of the series to the world that the author has built well also welcoming new readers into this narrative. The unique imagery that the author has provided in this book allows the reader, a almost cinematic experience that would make this story, the perfect animated children’s film to bring magic and sword and sorcery style narratives to the silver screen.

Not only our readers treated to three brand new stories featuring everyone’s favorite protagonist Samual, giving them even more character development for a protagonist they already love, but the Author does a wonderful job of introducing new characters and other stories as well. This reader was particularly fond of the introduction of Abigail as a witch trying to live up to her mother‘s legacy as the town protector, and discovering that the path to heroism isn’t always so cut and dry.

THE VERDICT

A fun, entertaining, and powerful collection of short stories, author S.A. Schneider’s “Town Magician Short Stories” is a must read sword and sorcery middle grade anthology. The magical system, the author has woven into the stories and the strong character dynamics that help populate. Each of these stories will fully immerse young readers into this world and keep them on the edge of their seats. Well also having fun. If you haven’t yet, please be sure to read this incredible collection of stories when a publishes later this year in 2026.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Don’t you wish you could have a lightsaber? I imagine it all the time. And force powers – definitely force powers. Think of that? Oh, wait – how about spider powers? Shooting web lines and clinging to walls. You could get to school in style.

OK, so we can’t have those. At least to the best of my knowledge. What’s the next best thing? Reading stories about other worlds. I guess I’ll have to settle for that and hopefully you’d like to come along for the ride.

I live and grew up in a rural area in Ohio. That left a lot of room for reading. I now live with my family and create stories set in many other places.

For now, I have to visit another world.
Enjoy the adventure!
