The Synopsis

What if many of your choices are not as “free” as they feel?

We like to believe that we are fully in control of our lives.

But why do calm, intelligent people suddenly react too strongly to criticism, chase status, compare themselves to others, feel restless even when life is comfortable, or keep repeating emotional patterns they already understand?

Slaves of Evolution is a philosophical and psychological journey into the hidden forces behind human behavior.

This book explores how ancient survival programs still shape our desires, fears, relationships, ambitions, and daily decisions — even in a modern world of smartphones, social media, comfort, and endless choice.

Inside, you will discover:

Why your body often reacts before your mind has time to think

Learn how ancient instinctive systems influence anger, fear, jealousy, status-seeking, and the need for approval.

How modern culture uses old evolutionary buttons

Understand why advertising, social media, comparison, trends, and the pursuit of “success” can make you want things you may not truly need.

Why happiness feels unstable — and how to understand your inner “sliders”

See why satisfaction often fades quickly, why comparison changes your emotional state, and how to define “enough” on your own terms.

How to turn automatic reactions into conscious choices

The book offers practical tools, reflection questions, and simple exercises that help you pause, notice what is happening inside, and respond more clearly.

A deeper way to understand yourself and other people

Instead of judging yourself for strange emotions or “illogical” reactions, you will learn to see them as signals from an ancient system — and work with them more wisely.

This is not a dry academic textbook and not a collection of shallow life hacks.

It is a clear, honest, and human conversation about instinct, culture, self-awareness, meaning, and the possibility of becoming more than a passenger inside your own mind.

If you have ever wondered why you react the way you do, why people repeat the same conflicts, why status matters so much, why happiness slips away, or how to live with more inner freedom —

this book will give you a new map of human nature.

Start reading Slaves of Evolution and begin seeing your own reactions differently.

THE REVIEW

This was a compelling and engaging read. The book offers a philosophical and psychological deep dive into the idea that ancient instincts, present in human society for as long as it has existed, still connect with people today. The honest and thought-provoking writing style the author brings to this book was perfectly illustrated in the way the author paired each point and discovery with a unique mini story to highlight how that discovery looks in a modern-day situation, such as a person‘s quick rise to anger over a slight done to them by another person when, in reality, that slight isn’t important enough to get so heated.

The book balances scientific study of evolution and how the human mind works with deeper philosophical discussions of how deeply emotions and instincts are intertwined in the human condition. The author delves into deeper questions such as a person’s desires versus a person’s needs, the instinct to always pursue something new in our lives, and much more. The relatability and insights the author provides make this book a compelling read.

THE VERDICT

Thought-provoking, insightful, and engaging, “SLAVES OF EVOLUTION” BY PYOTR PROKOSHIN is a must-read philosophical and psychological non-fiction book. Readers will really identify with and engage with the author’s perspective and gain new insights into how their own minds work as well as the biological connection to these instincts, while also getting a deeper look into how people can balance tapping into their instincts without losing themselves completely and being able to identify the emotional responses tied to those instincts. About the Author

I am interested in the human being at the intersection of nature, culture, and everyday life: how ancient evolutionary programs still influence our reactions, choices, fears, pursuit of status, need for recognition, and search for meaning.

In Slaves of Evolution, I write about how “autopilot” appears in relationships, work, social media, inner tension, and life’s turning points. I value clear language over heavy jargon, using observation, mini-stories, philosophical reflection, self-inquiry, and practical exercises that help readers notice an impulse, pause, and return to a more conscious choice.

I look at human nature with a researcher’s curiosity and respect for its complexity. My writing grows out of observation of everyday life, inner conflicts, cultural scripts, and the ways people try to build a steadier inner foundation. For me, writing is an invitation to look at oneself more carefully and to live with greater clarity, freedom, and inner steadiness.
