Author Cole Davis shares a thoughtful look into prehistoric mindsets and how adapting to modern thinking could help achieve personal growth and happiness in the book “The Stone Age Now.”
The Synopsis

In spite of their achievements, modern societies tend to behave as our ancestors did. This may have worked for us in ancient times, but is likely to destroy us in today’s interconnected world. The ability to think critically – and to act – can help us as individuals to protect our world, and be all the happier for it.
A philosophical and social critique, in which Thomas Hobbes is rescued from his absolutist portrayal, fascinating parallels are drawn between modern issues and historical precedents. Ranging far and wide – ancient Rome, Hitler, African genocides, Rabbi Hillel – the author considers political structures, environmental concerns, and economic shibboleths.
The book later moves to personal happiness, materialism, and social change. In the search for critical thinking, the reputation of George Orwell is also reconsidered in the conflict between the personal and the political.
Psychologist and polymath Cole Davis brings to bear his knowledge and distinctive writing style to this splendidly argued volume. This is a short book with plentiful content.
THE REVIEW
This was an insightful and engaging read. The way the author shows how humanity often makes personal and social decisions based on outdated thinking helps fuel the mindset and theory the book builds around. While the author focuses more on personal growth than preaching any sort of direction, the book strikes a strong balance between the author’s personal philosophies and viewpoints and reason- and logic-based facts to support those worldviews.
The heart of this book is not simply addressing these philosophical debates and how people can change their approach to decision-making in society, but making these changes for personal growth and a desire to achieve true happiness. The Author does a great job of writing in a way that feels both academic and yet deeply personal and accessible to the general readership overall and offers incredible insights into some powerful topics, from how people relate to race and nationality to the topic of the historical and personal nature of the Second Amendment debate and so much more.
THE VERDICT
Insightful, engaging, and memorable, Author Cole Davis’s “The Stone Age Now” is a must-read non-fiction philosophical book. The fast pacing and powerful topics keep the reader engaged. The author focuses on personal growth and happiness as the book’s motivation, which will resonate with many readers and keep them coming back to expand their own philosophies.
