This was a compelling and enthralling read. The author does a fantastic job balancing magic-based action with visceral world-building. The story’s shifting realities let the reader connect with the protagonist and his journey, as it delves into the past and the present through shifting perspectives to highlight the experience and emotional depth of his life. The story is atmospheric, creating brutal creatures and haunting tension that immerse the reader and fuel the protagonist’s fight for survival at all costs. 

The author’s powerful writing style brings vital themes to life, from how reality itself is a matter of perspective to the impact loss has on survivors and the fight to overcome fate and build a future. The emotional toll of that loss plays a crucial role in the protagonist’s development, and the exploration of the Hero’s Journey makes this novel stand out and keeps the reader invested as the story progresses.

THE VERDICT

Haunting, thought-provoking, and entertaining, Jeremy Washington’s “Remnants of Yesterday” is a must-read post-apocalyptic sci-fi-meets-fantasy novel.
