The Synopsis

WHAT IF CONSCIOUSNESS COULD LEAVE THE BODY…

AND HUMANITY DECIDED THAT WAS SALVATION?

In 1995, neuroscientist Elias Vale disappeared during an experiment into the nature of human consciousness.

Years later, Nathan Reeves becomes entangled with Vale’s research and discovers evidence of somewhere that should not exist.

WARM RIVERS.

ENDLESS FIELDS.

TWO SUNS IN THE SKY.

As the world we know begins to deteriorate, what began as an impossible experiment becomes something far more dangerous…

Irresistible.

An escape.

But as humanity journeys toward the unknown, a chilling question remains: does anyone comprehend what awaits them?

SOME DOORS WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE OPENED.

THE REVIEW

This is one of the most compelling and ambitious speculative-fiction-meets-science-fiction novels I’ve read this year. The world-building is top-notch, plumbing the depths of human consciousness to create new worlds and new threats. The character development grounded the narrative and added rich emotional context, with the protagonist especially leading the charge in pulling readers into the world the author built. The trauma they faced in Afghanistan, and how it haunts the protagonist, balances with the relationship he begins to build with Clara and how vitally important she becomes to him as he unravels the mystery behind this consciousness experiment.

What really stood out was the powerful exploration of human consciousness, infused with metaphysical fiction. This slow-burn story establishes the mystery early on and lets the rich character dynamics speak for themselves. The author balances the story with equal parts military thriller, science fiction, suspense, and speculative fiction, keeping readers immersed in both the conscious and unconscious worlds the story explores.

THE VERDICT

Compelling, thrilling, and entertaining, Dreamwalkers by Christian Meddelton is a must-read sci-fi and speculative fiction novel. The story’s twists and turns, along with its rich balance of world-building and character development, make the Wilder and more mysterious aspects of this consciousness, world, and experiment feel visceral and within reach as readers delve into the vibrant world the author has developed. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Christian Meddelton is a British author of speculative science-fiction thrillers that explore the point where science, human consciousness and the impossible begin to overlap.

His debut novel, Dreamwalkers, combines neuroscience, military thriller, environmental collapse and existential mystery in a story about humanity’s discovery of a world beyond ordinary consciousness—and the consequences of opening a door it doesn’t fully understand.

Meddelton is particularly interested in the questions that sit just beyond the edge of what science can currently explain: the nature of consciousness, the limits of perception, and what might remain undiscovered about reality itself.

Dreamwalkers is his first novel.
