THE REVIEW

This was another powerful entry in this historical fiction and drama series. The vast expansion not only of this family but of the world as a whole, as both British and French forces made their way into Asia during this period of history, was astonishing to see come to life on the page. The global impact of trade and business as a whole, and how it dictated everything from politics and global expansion for other countries to the outbreak of skirmishes and war, was well represented in the historical context the author brought to life on the page.

The heart of this narrative, of course, is how this history was incorporated into the family’s larger narrative. The story returns to the first book’s sense of adventure as a new descendant sets out across the sea once more, this time into Asia, and explores a new branch of the family tree. As tensions rise, the author brings the atmosphere to life on the page, giving readers an immersive experience. The series is known for its character development, and this book is no different, as these characters add a touch of romance and explore difficult choices people face when they are torn between the family business they were born into and the love that develops with someone new.

THE VERDICT

Thoughtfully written, compelling, and an entertaining entry into the series, author Armand Du Silence’s “The Indies and Silk” is a must-read historical fiction drama. The author does a great job of exploring significant historical figures and events, such as the emergence of the East India Trading Company, while maintaining a perfect balance with the original characters and their dynamics, as well as the storyline that runs through this family tree, which the series has become associated with. Filled with twists and turns and emotional depth that will keep readers on the edge of their seats, this novel does a great job of hooking readers and leaving them eager for the next entry and the series.
