THE REVIEW
This was a gripping and compelling thriller. The author does an incredible job of layering the mystery and suspense of the narrative surrounding this conspiracy with the protagonist’s dynamic character development and his evolution as a person. The shocking opening chapter, which depicts the deaths that fuel this revenge story, reveals the depth of power the protagonist faces, and the haunting imagery elevates the emotional stakes as the story progresses.
The powerful character development in this novel is its driving force. Tom is a powerful and complex protagonist, starting as a singularly driven man living on his own terms away from his parents’ wealth, and slowly evolves into a highly trained and determined warrior on a path of justice. The exploration of his training and the way he peels back the layers of the conspiracy, while also examining the moral complications of the path he has chosen to walk.
THE VERDICT
Harrowing, adrenaline-fueled, and engaging, author Rick Tippins’s “The Dark Side of Saintliness” is a must-read thriller and a fantastic start to the Thomas Blackburn series. The twists and turns this story takes, the way the protagonist uncovers the mystery and begins working on the list of criminals tied ot this conspiracy, and the shocking revelations by the book’s end will leave readers eager for the next entry in this series. Rick Tippins was born in Ventura, California, and raised in Napa Valley. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired law enforcement lieutenant, he served in SWAT, Narcotics, and Homicide during a distinguished career with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Rick began writing in 1994 during night shifts at the county jail. What started as screenwriting evolved into a passion for novels, leading to the release of A World Slowed and many other titles across post-apocalyptic, science fiction, and thriller genres. He is currently narrating his own work, with plans to make his full catalog available in audio format.
