The Synopsis
Three years after Daimina’s rescue, Aoh is now living in the Egyptian palace freely, or so she thinks. With her secret revealed, not everyone in the palace is taking kindly to her. That is except Laggus, the man she has fallen deeply in love with.
However, his new status as a soldier keeps him away as the Egyptian and Canaanite war rages on. THE REVIEW
This was a strong and powerful sequel to the first book in the series. The emotional depth of this cast of characters, especially the protagonist and their main love interest, let readers connect with them and feel every moment of joy and heartbreak. The author’s continued use of strong imagery brought this world to life, diving into the hot Egyptian desert and the tense, hall-like halls of the Egyptian palace in vivid detail so readers could immerse themselves completely.
Action and history continue to play a vital role in this narrative, with a strong romance woven into the political intrigue, allowing some moments in the novel to really stand out. The shocking mystery of missing women that adds more weight to the protagonist journey and the drama and mistrust that springs forth inside the Royal Court of the Egyptian pharaoh as some plot against him for their own purposes, and others remain wary of the protagonist motivations to protect the pharaoh, are perfectly balanced with the emotional weight of the will they won’t they romance the protagonist finds herself in with the man she loves as he struggles between his duties as a soldier and his immense love for her.
THE VERDICT
Entertaining, thrilling, and immersive, Author Jennifer Renson’s “AOH Part II” is a must-read blend of historical fiction, romance, and YA thriller. The shocking twists and turns that keep readers emotionally invested and on the edge of their seats as the story progresses will stay with readers long after the book ends, and the ways in which readers will feel enthralled by both the politics and the strong romance that fuels both sides of this protagonist’s journey will leave readers eager for more from this author and this series overall.
