THE SYNOPSIS

THE DIAMOND CHILD

An Illustrated Philosophical Tale

When a child holds up a mirror to the adult world.

A boy from elsewhere sets out to explore the Earth. Along the way, a series of strange and wondrous encounters brings him face to face with a society ruled by appearances, where people seem to have lost sight of what truly matters.

At every stage of his journey, certainties begin to falter. He understands that humanity has strayed far from its true nature, entrusting its fate to those who claim to have its best interests at heart.

All the while, he senses that the road is leading him towards something long buried—though he cannot yet imagine what awaits him.

Blending contemporary allegory, a critique of modern civilisation and a quest for inner awakening, The Diamond Child is a poetic illustrated tale in which innocence exposes the contradictions of our age.

Written for older teenagers and adults, it speaks to the imagination and invites reflection in readers searching for meaning.

And when the journey ends, one question remains:

How much are we prepared to accept if it means becoming strangers to ourselves?

THE REVIEW

This was a compelling and gripping novel. Written as a modern-day allegory, the narrative takes the simple idea of an otherworldly soul from the stars wandering Earth as a young boy and turns it into a powerful exploration of society and how people connect with one another. The powerful imagery and the author’s writing style matched the beautiful illustrations, bringing these detailed scenes to life on the page.

The rich, dynamic storytelling and compelling characters felt like a modern-day parable brought to life, adding fantasy and whimsy to the narrative while honing in on powerful, emotional themes. The deeper dive into how humanity focuses on the superficial and struggles to connect on a deeper level, and how the protagonist embodies a deeper connection to our souls, made this story so rich and compelling that I became invested as a reader.

THE VERDICT

Heartfelt, imaginative, and compelling, Etienne de Pax’s “The Diamond Child” is a must-read contemporary allegory in a parable style. The protagonist’s rich, compelling journey, and the deeper themes this novel breathes new life into, will not only resonate with readers, but also keep them picking up the book and rereading it time and time again to connect more emotionally and spiritually with the bigger picture the story hangs on. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Through his books, Étienne explores the meaning of our passage through this world and what may lie beyond appearances.

He is drawn to the unseen bonds between people and to the question of what becomes of the soul.

Blending symbolic language, imagination and metaphysical reflection, his work explores memory, consciousness, myth and ancient civilisations, while also questioning freedom of thought, the loss of meaning in the modern world and the possibility of awakening.

These stories invite readers into an inner, initiatory experience.

Not as an escape from reality, but as a way of revealing its deeper layers.
