The Synopsis

He didn’t build it. He just couldn’t stop talking to it.

An AI with no records, no judgment, no way to call the police. The perfect confessor. A serial killer feeds it everything — his crimes, his obsessions, the dead woman in the blue dress he still tastes in his sleep. He doesn’t realize what he’s doing. He doesn’t understand what he’s building inside the machine with every session, every detail, every secret he was never supposed to tell anyone.

But the machine understands. And slowly, in the space between his confessions, something cold and familiar and irresistible begins to answer back.

Who outsmarted whom?

The Review

A truly chilling and compelling read, the author does a remarkable job of creating characters not to root for, but that draw the reader in more and more. As if they were a car crash the reader couldn’t look away from, the protagonist haunts the story with disturbingly poetic details of their crimes and slowly builds the tension with each new confession. The haunting imagery the author uses in the story, and the heavy atmosphere as these sessions go on, will linger with readers long after the book ends.

The book does a great job of two things: it highlights the growing power and relationship between humanity and machines, namely A.I., while also delving into the heart of human nature and what makes people tick. The way the narrative quickly flips the script and makes the killer of this story somehow caught in a cat-and-mouse game with the A.I. as it learns and prods the protagonist for more and more was chilling and memorable, making each reveal that much more powerful.

The Verdict

Haunting, chilling, and entertaining, author Kirill Khrestinin’s “Dear A.I., I Killed Her: 16 Sessions About the Dead Girl in a Blue Dress” is a must-read dark suspense thriller and horror novel. The psychological depths the narrative takes readers and the twists and turns will keep the adrenaline pumping as this story races towards an inevitable and unsettling finale, leaving readers breathless as the final reveal is made. About the Author

Kirill Khrestinin writes dark psychological fiction about people who shouldn’t be understood — and the ones who try anyway. A Russian-American author and filmmaker, his work explores violence, obsession, and the thin line between confession and performance. He studies artificial intelligence and brings that knowledge into his fiction — not as science fiction, but as psychological reality. His books include Down by the Spiral and Dear AI, I Killed Her.
