THE REVIEW

This was such a powerful and gripping read. The narrative was rich with powerful imagery, and the author did an incredible job of layering the story with an international setting that perfectly immerses the reader in each scene. The author also does a great job of balancing chilling tension and lighthearted character dynamics, allowing the reader to feel the drive that brings these people together in ways no one could have seen coming while also giving them room to evolve and grow as individuals. 

The story is very character-driven. The story starts strong, showcasing how the twin brothers’ family connections change the dynamic of their path to revenge, while Julia’s arc and her crossing paths with the brothers lay the foundation for how this story grows. The abundance of secondary characters the author introduces makes this a perfect crime thriller, creating a narrative that feels open and expansive and keeps the reader invested as the story takes on a life of its own. 

THE VERDICT

Harrowing, compelling, and entertaining, author H.C. Taylor’s “Shafted: The Beginning” is a must-read crime thriller meets revenge tale.
