Author NEMO shares a hearty collection of vegan Italian recipes that capture Italy’s flavors in “Vegan Flavours of Italy: Vegan Italian Cuisine,” the first book in the Terra Vegan cookbook series.
The Synopsis

Vegan Flavours of Italy is the first volume of the Terra Vegan by Nemo series and the ideal entry point into vegan Italian cuisine: 100 plant-based recipes inspired by Italian regional tradition, with easily sourced ingredients and clear instructions for beginners and experienced cooks alike.
The volume is structured in seven sections following the natural rhythm of a meal: starters and nibbles, pasta dishes, main courses, sides and salads, desserts, sauces and condiments, bread and bases. Each section offers preparations rooted in the gastronomic memory of Italy, from fragrant bruschette from the South to risottos from the North, from fresh pasta to traditional desserts, entirely reinterpreted in a plant-based key.
No ultra-processed ingredients, no industrial products. Only simple, seasonal and local ingredients, prepared with accessible techniques: marinades, gentle cooking, light toasting, emulsions and sauces that enhance natural aromas and textures.
Every recipe includes weights, precise quantities, realistic timings, regional variants and personalisation suggestions. The tone is clear and narrative, suitable for those taking their first steps in plant-based cooking and for anyone looking to expand their daily repertoire with healthy, flavourful and characterful dishes.
Vegan Flavours of Italy demonstrates that the vegan choice is not deprivation: it is a way of rediscovering the richness of the Italian table and carrying it into the future, with respect for the earth and for taste.
THE REVIEW
This cookbook was fascinating and compelling. The author does a fantastic job capturing the heart and tradition of Italian cuisine while also exploring the history and need for vegan cooking in our modern world, as well as the various preparation methods and why certain ingredients interact in each recipe. The detail and variety of recipes came to life beautifully in this book.
But what really stood out was how the author developed and curated each recipe by grouping them into sections that fit not just a specific meal, but the natural flow of a meal in any Italian home or restaurant. From small nibbles and appetizers to big dinners or supper, each recipe added depth and a sense of heart and home that many associate with Italian cuisine. A personal favorite of mine opens the book with Mediterranean bruschetta, showing how simple, powerful, flavorful ingredients can come together without any meat-based products.
THE VERDICT
Thoughtfully curated, heartfelt, and engaging, author NEMO’s “Vegan Flavors of Italy” is a must-read cookbook and a great way to start off a fantastic series of reviews this month of this compelling series of vegan cookbooks centered around Italian cuisine. The depth of detail and the way these recipes were prepared complement the unique ingredients native to various regions in Italy and the commitment to veganism this cookbook promises.
