The Synopsis

What if we chose to let love lead us — every single day?

In a world torn by division and noise, A Life That Looks Like Love invites readers to discover what it truly means to live with love at the center.

After surviving a near-death heart attack, John E Harrity began asking deeper questions about how he was living — and how he was loving. This book is the result: an honest, grounded guide to living the Great Commandment in everyday life.

Through personal stories, hard-earned wisdom, and practical reflection, Harrity explores how choosing love — consistently and intentionally — can transform:

  • Our relationships
  • Our faith
  • Our response to conflict
  • Our sense of purpose
  • Our daily decisions

This book is for readers who are:

  • Seeking deeper spiritual growth
  • Navigating division in family, culture, or faith communities
  • Recovering from crisis or personal awakening
  • Longing to live with greater compassion and meaning

A Life That Looks Like Love offers a simple but powerful invitation:

Live differently.

Love intentionally.

Change the world one relationship at a time.

THE REVIEW

This was a compelling, insightful nonfiction read. The author strikes a great balance between personal experience and curated insights into personal faith and broader discussions of compassion and understanding among all people. The author strikes a conversational tone and lets readers engage with the experience that prompted this spiritual journey.

The book is written in a conversational tone, and the author brings to life unique perspectives while giving readers space to answer the questions they pose by putting each chapter’s experiences into practice in their own lives. What really stood out to me was how the author carried a message that spoke well to Christian readers while leaving plenty of room for people of other belief systems, and those who do not believe.

As many of you know, I’m not particularly religious, but I always leave space for everyone to feel safe believing in whatever they choose, and what stood out about this author’s work was its ability to connect more with the concept of love than anything else. While the author connects this deeper theme to their particular faith, they also acknowledge that other faiths, and those with a more spiritual or scientific background, can connect with the concept of love in other ways and leave open the possibility of a shared connection no matter a person’s belief systems, sexuality, gender, or any other walk of life that may differ from one another.

THE VERDICT

Compelling, insightful, and engaging, Author John Harrity’s “A Life That Looks Like Love” is a must-read book on spirituality, love, and rediscovering who you are in the face of personal crisis. The book’s insights and fast-paced, interactive style keep readers engaged, and its deeper themes resonate with a broad audience, making it stand out to readers who enjoy this genre. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

John E Harrity is an author, husband, father, patent attorney, philanthropist, and founder of the Love Revolution.

A near-fatal widowmaker heart attack brought his life to a sudden stop. He spent weeks critically ill, surrounded by family and friends who showed him a depth of love he had not fully understood before.

Survival did not instantly transform everything. The change unfolded over years. John began recognizing how emotionally closed off he had been, how much love had always surrounded him, and how differently he wanted to spend whatever time remained.

That journey led to A Life That Looks Like Love, a growing body of original music, and the Love Revolution: a call to make love—not status, fear, labels, or the need to be right—the organizing principle of a life.
